Craftsman bungalow remodel in Denver’s Washington Park West Neighborhood
A 1901 Denver Craftsman bungalow anchored by its front-gabled roofline, deep covered porch, and expressive structural detailing, this Washington Park West home carries the quiet integrity of Denver’s early residential fabric. Its location is exceptional, but the interior no longer supported contemporary living. The kitchen was undersized and compartmentalized, with dated finishes that muted the home’s architectural character.
Our interior design approach centered on spatial clarity and light. By removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room, we expanded the footprint enough to introduce a peninsula that functions like an island while maintaining the home’s original scale. The reconfiguration also unlocked generous south-facing natural light that had previously been obstructed, creating a brighter and more connected living environment.
Two bathrooms were thoughtfully reimagined with materials that nod to the home’s historic craftsman style—layered textures, earthy tones, clean lines, considered detailing, and a restrained palette that feels both grounded and enduring. The entry to this craftsman home was intentionally preserved. Natural materials including the original parquet hardwood floors and the sculptural wood staircase remain largely untouched, honoring the craftsmanship that defines the home’s first impression.
