It’s official. Spring is gone, summer is HERE. Time to break out those grills and start enjoying the sunshine. I know for me, I like to have my outdoor living spaces spruced up and ready for all things summer. I love being able to move living spaces and the same design concepts that apply indoors…to the outdoors. I like to update or add to my outdoor furniture collection, well let’s be honest, every year. There are so many new products coming out to create an outdoor space that is just as comfortable and cozy as our indoor spaces. It’s time to relax and entertain!
According to Adorable Home, functionality, natural materials, and warm colors are the hottest summer patio trends in summer 2021.
To make it convenient, I’ve put together a shoppable patio furniture round-up with all of my favorites, to help you curate your very own outdoor living collection.
Patio Furniture: Lounge
Your outdoor patio becomes your dwelling place in the summer. So, the lounge furniture you use needs to be all things comfy + cozy! You and your friends need nice, relaxing lounge chairs for all those hours spent mingling over a chilled beer or wine. Be on the lookout for naturally-crafted chairs using bamboo, or oak. Pair it with a light neutral-toned cushion for a soft, neutral aesthetic!

Fire Pits

With more and more social gatherings happening this summer, a fire to warm you up at night is key. Fires foster community + conversation – something everyone has missed for over a year! Blythe Yost, co-founder of Tilly, an online landscaping company, said that heat lamps and fire pits are a great way to stay cozy. Not to mention they can be multi-functional like this wood-fired pizza oven. You can warm up outside while dining with your friends – a perfect duo!

Rugs + Textiles

Ahhh rugs — they are truly the key to making your outdoor space feel cozy. Outdoor rugs help define the space and give you the softness under-foot that makes your patio or deck feel like an extension of your living room. Try out some rugs with a grid or stripe pattern. You can also look for warm-toned patterned rugs that make your space come to life even more. Earthy hue tones can make a space feel more alive and breathed in, so don’t be afraid to add some color!

Patio Furniture: Dining
Finding a dining style that fits you is key for picking out patio furniture in 2021. Many gatherings are centered around drinking and dining. Who doesn’t love some summer cocktails and great food? You are able to set the tone for what your home invites and the kind of moments that are shared. So think about what moments you want to extend to your backyard. Do you want a laid back feel? Pick functional and comfortable chairs. You want to invite warmth? Accent the table with a warm, earthy rug or table runner. Think of ways to invite blissful memories in the outdoor space you dine in.

And again, natural materials will be a key design element to consider when picking the right outdoor dining chairs or table.

Lighting
Well, let’s be honest. Many summer gatherings can go all night long. Which means, outdoor lighting is a must. There are so many ways to incorporate outdoor lighting into your backyard patio but here are a few of my faves.
For starters, consider putting in some solar-powered path lights to show off the landscape you’ve spent hours planting + perfecting. Then consider how you can add some accent pieces to your patio design. I’m personally a fan of modern brass light fixtures like this brass pendant light. If you have lots of trees, and a nicely sized backyard, consider adding in bulb string lights and scatter them across your trees. This will light up your entire backyard and provide a cozy and welcoming space.

Pots and Planters
Nature is a key trending element of outdoor patio furniture. Which means, you can’t forget about your greenery! It’s just as important outside as it is inside. Decorate your naturally-made patio furniture this summer with various different kinds of plants. Target’s collection with Hilton Carter has dropped just in time to launch this trend!
You can even add in some warm-colored pots + planters to splash in some color and depth to your patio design! I’ve included some of my favorites and ones of all different sizes for you to choose from.
